MVSU 30, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 17

CHICAGO -- Aries Nelson completed 19-of-25 passes for 269
yards and three touchdowns, including two to Tyrone Timmons, to
lead Mississippi Valley State to a 30-17 win Saturday over
Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the Chicago Football Classic.

Nelson threw TD passes of 26, 14, 15 yards to give MVSU in the
season opener for Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Timmons caught the 14-yard
touchdown with 6:45 left in the third quarter and made the 15-yard
reception about six minutes later to give Valley a 20-3 lead.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff trailed 30-3 before scoring its first TD.
Dean Mickey scored a 1-yard touchdown with five minutes left and
Cary Washington added a 25-yard TD pass from Chris Wallace, but it
was not enough.

Nelson started the scoring with a 26-yard pass to Clifford
Carter with 8:16 remaining in the first quarter to cap a 10-play,
79-yard drive.

MVSU outgained Arkansas-Pine Bluff 409-273 in total offense.
