Anderson for third place on baseball's career victory list
Wednesday night when the Cardinals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-3
for La Russa's 2,194th victory.
Only Connie Mack (3,731) and John McGraw (2,763) have won more
games.
La Russa passed Bucky Harris and Joe McCarthy earlier this
season. La Russa, 2,194-1,893 in 28 seasons with the Chicago White
Sox, Oakland and St. Louis, is the second-winningest manager in St.
Louis history (874), trailing only Red Schoendienst (1,041).
