LARAMIE, Wyo. -- Wyoming coach Joe Glenn said it appears
likely that senior running back Joe Harris will have to redshirt
this season.
Harris, UW's second-leading rusher last season with 94 carries
for 409 yards and four touchdowns, returned to Laramie Friday after
being back home in Kansas because of a death in his family.
While at home, Harris cut off the tip of his right middle finger
in a kitchen accident. That, coupled with his ongoing
rehabilitation on his left knee following offseason surgery to
repair his anterior cruciate ligament, has Glenn thinking Harris
will be redshirted.
"We're 99 percent sure," Glenn said after Saturday's practice
in Laramie. "It looks like at this point we will redshirt him."
Harris came to UW last season from Butler County (Kan.)
Community College and played in 10 of 12 games for the Cowboys.
Glenn said UW's leading rusher last season, junior Ivan
Harrison, continues to improve from offseason knee and shoulder
surgeries. Although he is doubtful for the Cowboys' season-opener
Sept. 3 at Florida, there is a chance he will be ready for games
later in September.
Redshirt freshman Wynel Seldon appears to be the starter at
running back right now, Glenn said.
UW practiced in full pads for the first time in fall camp
Saturday.
During some 11-on-11 work at the end of practice, junior
cornerback Derrick Martin knocked down a long pass intended for
senior wide receiver Jovon Bouknight. Senior defensive end Aaron
Robbins recorded a tackle for loss on senior wide receiver Jason
Wallace, and senior quarterback Corey Bramlet completed a long pass
to sophomore receiver Hoost Marsh.
Junior defensive end Adam Diehl recorded a sack on sophomore
quarterback Jacob Doss.
Glenn said players who have had a solid fall camp thus far
include sophomore strongside linebacker Sean Claffey, sophomore
wide receiver Taber LeMarr and true freshman defensive tackle Erick
Pauley from Green River.
Glenn also said his veteran players have looked good after five
practices.
"We've got to get to a scrimmage and then evaluate guys at
ramming speed," Glenn said.
UW's first scrimmage of fall camp is set for Wednesday.
