Soccer-Champions PSV held by Heracles in season opener

AMSTERDAM, Aug 13 - Champions PSV Eindhoven were
held 1-1 away against promoted Heracles Almelo on Saturday in
the opening weekend of the Dutch first division.

PSV struggled in the first Dutch top flight football match
to be played on artificial turf but looked on their way to a
lucky win when Philip Cocu opened the scoring with six minutes
remaining.

Three minutes later Thijs Sluijter handed the home side a
deserved point when his cross ended up in the net behind
goalkeeper Gomes.

AZ Alkmaar are top of the table following a 3-0 win over
Sparta Rotterdam on Friday.

Roda JC Kerkrade beat Twente Enschede 2-0 with Edrissa Sonko
and Arouna Kone on target.

RKC Waalwijk opened with a 2-1 win at neighbours Willem II
Tilburg. Rick Hoogendorp scored twice before Martijn Reuser
pulled one back.

Reuser failed to salvage a point when he missed a penalty
with 16 minutes remaining.

Vitesse Arnhem and Heerenveen shared the points in a 2-2
draw.
