ST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- St. Louis Cardinals' righthander Chris
Carpenter aims for his 16th win Tuesday, when he takes on 14-game
winner Dontrelle Willis and the Florida Marlins.

Carpenter (15-4, 2.33 ERA) won his seventh straight decision
after allowing three runs in seven innings of Thursday's 11-3
victory over San Diego. It made him one of two major leaguers -
along with Jon Garland of the Chicago White Sox - with 15 wins.

Over his last four home starts, Carpenter has allowed just one
run and 20 hits in 34 2/3 innings. He is 1-2 with a 2.27 ERA in
six career starts against the Marlins, who posted a 6-5 win in
Monday's opener of the four-game set.

Mike Lowell homered and had three RBI as Florida won for the
fifth time in six games and earned its third straight victory on
the road.

Willis (14-6, 3.07) recovered from a three-game losing streak
with a strong effort Thursday against Pittsburgh. In a 3-0
triumph, he yielded just three hits in seven innings while
striking out seven.

During his losing streak, Willis gave up 23 runs in only 13
innings, causing concern of another second-half struggle for the
23-year-old lefthander. In his three-year career, Willis has a
2.84 ERA before the All-Star break but a 4.66 ERA after it.
