Thursday: Back in 1991, when I was still a big fantasy baseball player and a bigger Phillies fan, I ended up winning a fantasy title by the strength of one pitcher's win. This other guy and I had great teams; nobody else was within 20 points. Down the stretch we came, in one of those races you remember, and we were both over 100 wins! I finished with 107, he had 106. And in the end I finished with 135 points, he had 134. What a year!

After the season I looked back at my team, trying to appreciate how much David Cone, Ray Lankford, Bryan Harvey and Julio Franco (yes, that Franco, who hit .341 with 108 runs that year) did for me. My other closer that year was Mitch Williams, who not only saved games for that fantasy team, but my favorite team.

Mitch also tied for second on my team with 12 wins. Without him, I lose the title.
