Jay Cutler is legit. Vandy football, especially Vandy offensive football, seldom gets much respect, but the Commodores quarterback could play for a bunch of programs, some in the top 15. To me, Cutler's kinda like the Drew Stanton of the SEC, with less firepower at his disposal. I'm sure it still shocked some fans that the league coaches selected Cutler, not Florida's Chris Leak, to the 2005 Preseason All-SEC First Team Wednesday. But the guy deserves his due, and from talking to one coach in the Southeast, I've heard how much of a headache Cutler is to prepare to play against.

It's rarefied air when you consider Vandy has not had a quarterback picked All-SEC by pretty much anyone in more than two decades, according to The Tennessean. Kurt Page was first-team All-SEC by UPI in 1984 and Whit Taylor was first-team All-SEC by AP and UPI in 1982.

I suspect Leak or 'Bama's Brodie Croyle will end up being the all-league QB after the season. Cutler also got another pretty cool honor: Next week he will be out in Orange County working as a counselor at the EA Sports Elite 11 QB camp. The event is a neat deal for the touted prep quarterbacks who get to participate in it, but also for the college QBs who help work the camp. Last year's group included Aaron Rodgers, Jason White, Brad Smith, Derek Anderson, Dan Orlovsky and Kyle Orton. This year, Cutler will be joined by Smith, Matt Leinart, Croyle, Omar Jacobs and Tyler Palko.
