Milwaukee (45-48) at St Louis (60-32), 8:10 pm EDT ST. LOUIS (Ticker) - A pair of pitchers who have not lost in a
combined 10 starts square off Wednesday when the Milwaukee
Brewers take on the St. Louis Cardinals in the third contest of
a four-game series. Ben Sheets (5-6, 3.45 ERA) gets the nod for the Brewers, looking
to win his fourth straight decision. The righthander has not
lost in his last six starts, posting a 3.38 ERA in that stretch. Sheets, who turned 27 on Monday, allowed three runs and a
season-high 10 hits Friday against Washington and did not factor
in a 4-3 win. St. Louis counters with Mark Mulder (10-5, 4.13), who is 2-0
with a 1.98 ERA in his last four starts. The lefthander yielded
just one run in eight innings Friday but received no decision
in a 4-3 win over Houston. Mulder is 4-2 with a 3.52 ERA at home this season. He also is
an impressive 9-1 with a 2.22 ERA in 11 night starts. The Cardinals took Monday's series opener, 11-4, before the
Brewers responded with a 5-4 triumph Tuesday. Bill Hall had a
clutch two-out, two-run double in the eighth to lift Milwaukee
to its sixth win in eight games. Albert Pujols belted his 25th homer for St. Louis, which had its
five-game winning streak snapped.
