Palmer's grandson leads U.S. Junior Amateur

LONGMEADOW, Mass. -- Sam Saunders, Arnold Palmer's grandson,
birdied six of his first 12 holes and shot a 5-under 65 Tuesday to
take the second-round lead at the weather-delayed U.S. Junior
Amateur.

Play was interrupted twice by lightning, and 30 players still
have to complete the second round. The final round of stroke play
will be finished Wednesday morning, then the field will be trimmed
to 64 for match play.

The 17-year-old Saunders, who had a hole-in-one in the first
round, finished with a 7-under 133 total. He made a 23-foot birdie
putt at the first hole and a 25 footer for birdie at No. 4 on the
way to a 4-under 31 on the front nine.

Arnond Vongvanij of Bradenton, Fla., is at 3 under with three
holes left in his second round.

Joe Monte of Chantilly, Va., who tied the course record at
Longmeadow Country Club with an opening 64, had four birdies
Tuesday and settled for a 71 to finish 5 under.
