White Sox activate LHP Marte from the 15-day DL

CLEVELAND - The Chicago White Sox opened the second
half of the season by welcoming back one of the integral parts
of their bullpen.

On Thursday, the White Sox activated pitcher Damaso Marte from
the 15-day disabled list.

The 30-year-old lefthander was placed on the DL on June 30 with
an inflamed left trapezius. At the time of his injury, Marte
was 3-3 with a 2.81 ERA and two saves in a team-high 34 games.

Marte is 14-13 with a 3.07 ERA in parts of six seasons with
Pittsburgh, Seattle and the White Sox.

Chicago's bullpen leads the American League in saves and ranks
in the top five in wins, ERA and opponents' average - one of the
major reasons the White Sox own the best record in baseball at
57-29 and are off to the best start in franchise history.

To make room for Marte, Chicago optioned pitcher Kevin Walker to
Class AAA Charlotte of the International League. The
28-year-old lefthander is 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA in nine relief
appearances for the White Sox.
