LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Cat Quatorze took the lead from the start
and raced to a 12-length victory Friday in the $50,800 allowance
feature at Churchill Downs. The daughter of Louis Quatorze, ridden by Gary Stevens, covered
the 1 1-8 miles in 1:51.05 over a fast track and paid $4.80, $2.80
and $2.20 as the 6-5 favorite. Patty Seattle rallied from last to finish second and returned $3
and $2.40. Silver Sonic paid $2.40 to show. Cat Quatorze, owned by Stevestan Stable, won for the second time
in six career starts to earn $31,790 for a career total of $63,245. The race for 3-year-old fillies was scheduled for the turf but
moved to the main track, prompting two scratches and leaving a
field of five. Cat Quatorze trainer Helen Pitts won with her first starter on
her first day as a trainer after taking over about 40 horses that
had been handled by Ken McPeek. He has retired from training to
focus on sales and consulting.
