Soccer-Munteanu joins CFR Cluj after leaving Steaua

BUCHAREST, June 28 - Romanian international
midfielder Dorinel Munteanu signed a two-year deal on Tuesday to
play for and coach first division team CFR Cluj.

Munteanu, 37, one of the Romania's Golden Generation which
reached the 1994 World Cup quarter-finals, quit champions Steaua
Bucharest earlier this month.

"It's a good start to train a first division team for my
future coaching life," Munteanu told Reuters by telephone from
the western city of Cluj.

"I'm happy because I can play for my new team and for the
national team if coach Victor Piturca wants me."

CFR Cluj finished 11th last season and are through to the
Intertoto Cup second round where they face Athletic Bilbao.

Munteanu has scored 16 goals in 124 matches for Romania. He
left Dinamo Bucharest for Cercle Bruges in 1993 and spent nine
years in Germany playing for Cologne and VfL Wolfsburg.
