Johnson dropped from Gold Cup roster due to toe injury

CHICAGO -- FC Dallas striker Eddie Johnson was dropped from
the U.S. team for next month's CONCACAF Gold Cup because he has not
recovered from a toe injury.

U.S. coach Bruce Arena was expected to name a replacement to the
23-man roster soon, U.S. Soccer said in a statement Friday. Johnson
will stay in Dallas and get treatment for the injury to his right
big toe.

The 12-nation tournament is the championship of soccer's North
and Central American and Caribbean region. The Americans, who won
the title in 1991 and 2002, open with a pair of games in Seattle,
against Cuba on July 7 and Canada on July 9, then play Costa Rica
on July 12 at Foxboro, Mass.

The final is July 24 at East Rutherford, N.J.
