Ocean Course to hold 2012 PGA Championship

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- The Ocean Course, which held the 1991
Ryder Cup matches dubbed "The War at the Shore," was selected to
host the PGA Championships in 2012.

The announcement was made Thursday at architect Pete Dye's
seaside course, the site of this week's PGA Club Professional
Championship. The course also is to hold the Senior PGA
Championship in 2007.

At the Ryder Cup 14 years ago, the U.S. team reclaimed the
trophy after Germany's Bernard Langer missed a 5-foot putt on the
final hole to halve his match with America's Hale Irwin.

The PGA Championships in 2012 "will serve as another testament
of our confidence in the site's ability to continue to produce
special moments in championship golf history," PGA of America
chief executive Jim Awtrey said.

Besides the Ryder Cup, The Ocean Course has twice hosted the
World Cup and the UBS Cup team matches.
