Holst reunites with Morrill as assistant coach

Utah State: Don Holst, a former head coach at Montana,
was named an assistant coach at Utah State on Tuesday, rejoining
Aggies' head coach Stew Morrill.

Holst began his 15-year career with Montana in 1988, serving as
Morrill's assistant for the first four years. He then was an
assistant for seven years for Blaine Taylor.

Holst was elevated to the top job in 1999 but was fired after
taking Montana to the NCAA Tournament in 2002.

The firing prompted a complaint from one state Board of Regents
member that too much emphasis was being placed on winning. Holst's
teams had a 57-56 record over four seasons.

But Montana's former athletic director, Wayne Hogan, at the time
also cited a decline in basketball attendance during Holst's tenure
as one of the reasons for the firing.

"Our past association gives him a jump start in terms of
knowing what is expected. Having been a head coach, Don is very
familiar with every aspect of Division I basketball," Morrill
said.

Wichita State: Wichita State has hired Alvin Williamson, a
former assistant and interim head coach at Tulsa, as an assistant
men's basketball coach.

Williamson, 31, has nine years of coaching experience and took
over as Tulsa's interim head coach last season when John Phillips
quit after a 2-5 start.

The Golden Hurricane finished 9-20, and Michigan State assistant
Doug Wojcik took the Tulsa job in March.

Williamson, known as "Pooh" in his playing days, played four
seasons at Tulsa and led the team to the NCAA regional semifinals
in 1994 and 1995.

Following his college career, he held assistant coaching
positions at Washington State, Illinois State and Tulane before
going to Tulsa.
