Medina Garrigues wins Strasbourg tennis

STRASBOURG, France - Marta Domachowska will have to
wait awhile longer to claim her first career WTA singles title.

Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain got the better of Domachowska,
defeating the native of Poland, 6-4, 6-3, Saturday to win the
Strasbourg International.

Medina Garrigues had upset top seed Nathalie Dechy of France,
6-4, 6-1, in the semifinals of the $170,000 Tier III claycourt
event on Friday.

"I came here to win matches, not the tournament, then after
defeating Dechy, I thought I could win the title and I did,"
Medina Garrigues said. "I'm very happy with my preparation for
Roland Garros and I look forward to going to Paris."

The 22-year-old Medina Garrigues, who had won two career singles
titles - at Palermo in 2001 and 2004 - but none this year, was
facing a fellow unseeded player in the final.

She won her first Tier III title.

The 19-year-old Domachowska reached the final by defeating Dally
Randriantefy of Madagascar on Friday, 6-3, 6-3.

Domachowska was appearing in her second WTA final, having lost
in the last round at Seoul last year. No player from Poland
ever has won a WTA singles title.

"Anabel dictated play today," Domachowska said. "I had my
chances but I didn't take them. My serve was not working either
so it was frustrating for me."
