Connecticut (0-0) at Detroit (0-0) 1:00 pm EDT

AUBURN HILLS, Michigan (Ticker) -- The last two Eastern
Conference champions meet in the WNBA season opener Saturday
when the Connecticut Sun face the Detroit Shock.

The Sun finished atop the tightly contested Eastern Conference
last season and finished one game short of the WNBA title,
losing in three games to the Seattle Storm in the finals.

Connecticut has high hopes of repeating this season after
trading for 7-2 center Margo Dydek in the offseason, giving it
the imposing defensive presence it lacked last season.

The Sun begin the defense of their Eastern Conference crown
against the Shock, who won the WNBA title in 2003 but were a
disappointment last season, finishing with a .500 record and
getting bounced in the first round of the playoffs.

A big reason for Detroit's struggles was its lack of depth. The
Shock addressed that weakness by signing three-time All-Star
Andrea Stinson.

Stinson may make her Detroit debut Saturday as All-Star forward
Swin Cash was placed on the injured list Thursday. Cash missed
the final two games of the regular season and the playoffs with
a torn left ACL last season.

The Sun won three of their four games with the Shock last
season, including both contests in Detroit.
