Soccer-Germany recall Deisler and Hamann for Confederations Cup

BERLIN, May 18 - Germany coach Juergen Klinsmann
recalled Bayern Munich's Sebastian Deisler and Liverpool's
Dietmar Hamann in a 23-man squad for the Confederations Cup next
month.

Deisler last played for Germany in the 2-0 victory over Iran
in October. However, in the same month he flew back from Italy
ahead of Bayern Munich's match against Juventus and returned to
the clinic where he had previously been treated for depression.

He has not been in the frame for the national team since and
has generally been left out of Bayern's starting line-up.

Hamann's last international match was Germany's 2-1 defeat
to the Czech Republic in Euro 2004 in June, which resulted in
Germany's exit from the competition. He has not featured in any
of Klinsmann's squads.
However, the 31-year-old midfielder has been instrumental in
Liverpool's passage to the final of the Champions League,
notably with a battling performance in the 1-0 victory over
Chelsea in the second leg of the semifinal.

Klinsmann also called up debutant Mike Hanke, 21, a striker
from Schalke 04 for the competition which is being staged in
Germany.

Germany play Australia, Tunisia and Argentina in the group
stage of the competition running from June 15 to 29. Brazil,
Greece, Mexico and Japan feature in the other group.

Germany will warm up for the Cup with matches against Bayern
Munich on May 31, Northern Ireland on June 4 and Russia on June
8.
