Woods, Daly, Goosen, Mickelson to play at night

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. -- In what could be the final
installment of Monday night golf exhibitions, Tiger Woods and John
Daly will take on Phil Mickelson and Retief Goosen in the "Battle
at the Bridges."
Organizers had hoped to get the "Big Four" for the July 25
match at The Bridges at Rancho Santa Fe. Instead, they got three of
the top five in the world ranking, plus the ever-popular Daly.
This is the final year of the contract, and ratings have plunged
since the format went away from head-to-head competition after
Sergio Garcia beat Woods in 2000.
The better-ball format offers $1.2 million for the winning team,
and $500,000 for the runner-up.
Woods has played all six Monday night exhibitions since they
began in 1999 when he defeated David Duval at Sherwood Country
Club.
Mickelson will be playing for the third time. He teamed with
Garcia two years ago to beat Woods and Ernie Els, and played with
Daly last year when they lost to Woods and Hank Kuehne.
Goosen has never played in the made-for-TV event, which will be
broadcast by ABC at 8 p.m. ET.
