Former Bronco named high school coach in Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo. -- Former Denver Broncos wide receiver and
kick returner Rick Upchurch has been named head football coach of
East High School.

Upchurch, whose duties will not include teaching, will be paid
$3,170 a year, school officials said. The school board approved the
contract Tuesday.

Upchurch played for the Broncos from 1975 to 1983, catching 267
passes, including the first completion by John Elway. A neck injury
forced him into retirement at age 32.

Upchurch operates Rare Breed Inc., which offers trips, sports
and other activities for children.

He replaces Rusty Pagano as East's coach. Pagano resigned last
month.
