Bonds undergoing aggressive antibiotic therapy

SAN FRANCISCO -- Barry Bonds is undergoing aggressive
antibiotic therapy on his troublesome right knee and the San
Francisco Giants announced Friday that Dr. Arthur J. Ting will
remain involved in the slugger's care, a day after a newspaper
report that Ting has been reprimanded twice by the Medical Board of
California.

The Giants said in a press release they will provide updates on
Bonds' condition "as events warrant." Bonds wants all information
on his health to be disseminated via his Web site,
www.barrybonds.com, which he hasn't updated since Tuesday.

"I really don't want to say anything at this point, but I can
tell you I think we'll be able to generally give more updates than
we've been able to give in the past," Giants trainer Stan Conte
said before San Francisco faced the Washington Nationals. "That's
the best I can say. I think it will become clear as we go along."

The Arizona Republic reported Thursday that Ting is on probation
for unprofessional conduct. The Giants said Ting, the team doctor
for the NHL's San Jose Sharks, is regularly informing the team of
his observations.

The 40-year-old Bonds is recovering from three surgeries on his
right knee since Jan. 31.

Bonds underwent arthroscopic surgery Monday as doctors tried to
clean out an infection, first draining fluids from his knee.

He didn't play at all during spring training and has said he
might miss half the year or the entire year.

It is unclear when the seven-time NL MVP will resume
rehabilitation -- or whether he will do it at SBC Park.

Bonds has 703 career home runs, 11 behind Babe Ruth and 52 from
tying Hank Aaron's career record. Bonds batted .362 last season
with 45 homers and 101 RBIss and also walked a major league-record
232 times on the way to his record seventh MVP award.
