Jackson won two titles at Lake Superior State

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Jeff Jackson, who led Lake Superior State to NCAA hockey championships in 1992 and 1994, was hired by Notre Dame on Friday to be the coach of the Fighting Irish.

Jackson succeeds former NHL player Dave Poulin, who coached Notre Dame for 10 seasons before resigning last month to move to an
administrative position at the school.

Jackson, who spent the past two years as an assistant coach with
the New York Islanders, guided Lake Superior State to a 182-52-25
record from 1990-96.

Jackson resigned as Lake Superior head coach and athletic
director to become the national coach for a new elite development
program for teenagers. He led the U.S. national team to a silver
medal at the 1997 world junior championships.

Notre Dame athletic director Kevin White said Jackson's background should provide a solid foundation for him to build the Irish program.

Jackson was an assistant coach for Team USA at the 1998 Winter Olympics, and in 2000 became the coach of the Guelph Storm of the
Ontario Hockey League, where he coached for three seasons.
