Cubs RHP Wood out with strained right shoulder

CHICAGO - The Chicago Cubs will once again have to piece
together their rotation without Kerry Wood.

The injury-prone Wood will be out indefinitely after an MRI on
Monday revealed a strained muscle in his right shoulder.

Wood had his last two starts cut short because of pain in his
shoulder. He lasted just five innings last Sunday in a 5-2
victory over Pittsburgh, then was pulled after three frames
Saturday in a 7-5 setback at Houston.

The 27-year-old Wood will not throw for three weeks. He will
be re-evaluated at that time by team doctors and work to
build arm strength.

Wood has been dealing with shoulder problems since spring
training, when bursitis forced him to miss two weeks.

The righthander is 1-1 with a 6.45 ERA in five starts this
season. He is 68-51 with a 3.69 ERA in his seven-year career.

Wood was limited to a 22 starts last season due to a triceps
injury that cost him two months. He went 8-9 with a 3.72 ERA in
2004, his first losing season.
