Harvey was hitting .375 in Triple-A

Kansas City Royals: Ken Harvey, the club's only All-Star last year, was recalled from Omaha, and right-hander Shawn Camp was optioned to the Triple-A farm team.

Harvey started at first base Thursday against Minnesota and went 2-for-5 with a run scored in Kansas City's loss. He was hitting .375 with three doubles, three home runs and 14 RBI in Omaha.

Camp (0-2) had a 12.15 ERA in 6 2/3 innings and was demoted after throwing just three pitches -- a hit batter, a wild pitch and a two-run triple -- in a 9-4 loss to the Twins.

St. Louis Cardinals: The club bolstered its bullpen
for a long stretch without a day off, recalling right-hander
Kevin Jarvis from Triple-A Memphis.

Little-used utility player Hector Luna, who has only 11 at-bats
in five games, was optioned to Memphis. The move will allow Luna, a
Rule 5 pickup last year, to see regular duty in the minors.

"It works out both ways," Cardinals manager Tony La Russa
said. "We wanted to make sure we had enough pitching."

Jarvis, the last player cut in spring training, has been
starting at Memphis. La Russa said Jarvis, who threw more than 100
pitches Tuesday, probably would be available Saturday.

The Cardinals don't have a day off until May 16.

Colorado Rockies: Jay Witasick was brought up by the Rockies, who optioned right-handers Scott Dohmann and Ryan Speier to Triple-A Colorado Springs and activated outfielder Dustan Mohr from the disabled list.

Witasick, a 32-year-old right-hander, was released by the Baltimore organization on April 7 and signed a minor league contract with the Rockies two days later. He was 0-1 with a 3.21 ERA for San Diego last year.

Dohmann was 0-1 with two blown saves and had an 18.90 ERA in nine appearances, and Speier was 1-1 with a blown save and a 9.82 ERA in 10 appearances. Colorado's bullpen has blown seven of nine chances.

Mohr had completed two games of a scheduled four-game rehab assignment at Colorado Springs. He went on the disabled list April 6 because of a strained left calf.

To add him to the roster, the Rockies purchased Witasick's contract from Colorado Springs.

Seattle Mariners: Infielder Dave Hansen was signed to a minor league contract and was expected to join the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers for their game at Salt Lake City.

The 36-year-old Hansen spent the first half of last season with
Seattle but was traded to San Diego last July 30. He went to spring
training this year with the Cubs but was released before camp ended.

The Mariners initially acquired Hansen though the six-player
trade in January 2004 where Seattle unloaded Jeff Cirillo. Hansen,
used mostly as a pinch-hitter, hit .282 with two home runs in 57
games with Seattle.

He's among the all-time leaders in career pinch-hits, ranking
fifth with 137, and he ranks seventh with 15 pinch-hit homers.
Among active players, he is second with 22 career pinch-hit doubles.

Cincinnati Reds: Ramon Ortiz, who has made only one start for
the club because of a strained right groin, threw a
12-minute bullpen session.

The right-hander made a rehabilitation start at Class-A Sarasota
on Tuesday. He threw 41 strikes in 58 pitches but gave up four runs
-- three earned -- in three innings. He struck out three and allowed
seven hits, including a home run.

Ortiz, who came over to the Reds in an offseason trade with the
Angels, left his exhibition start on March 23 against the New York
Yankees with a mild groin strain and didn't pitch again the rest of
spring training.

He made his regular-season debut April 8 at Houston and allowed
one run and five hits in five innings, getting a no decision in a
3-2 loss.

Ortiz missed his next scheduled start in St. Louis, then threw
off a mound three days later. When the groin tightened the next
day, the Reds put him on the disabled list retroactive to April 9.
