Tennis-Spain battle hard to take 2-0 lead against Argentina

BARCELONA, April 23 - Fed Cup debutant Nuria
Llagostera and number one Anabel Medina-Garrigues produced two
battling performances to give Spain a 2-0 lead over Argentina in
their Fed Cup tie in Jerez on Saturday.

Llagostera edged a 6-4 4-6 6-3 victory over Argentine number
one Gisela Dulko, while Medina-Garrigues claimed victory with an
identical scoreline against Maria-Emelia Salerni.

Llagostera, who sits 18 places below Dulko in the world
rankings, worked hard to fend off the Argentine who fought back
to win the second set.

But with the scores at 3-3, the Mallorcan won three straight
games to take the match in two hours 21 minutes.

Medina-Garrigues then put four-times Fed Cup winners Spain
2-0 ahead with an equally hard-fought 6-4 4-6 6-3 win against
Salerni.

The two countries have met three times previously in the Fed
Cup, with Spain holding a 2-1 advantage.

The winner of the tie will face either France or Austria in
the semi-finals in July.
