Redding tries for first win against Diamondbacks

San Diego (8-8) at Arizona (8-8), 9:40 pm EDT

PHOENIX -- Tim Redding can record a pair of firsts when
he takes the mound for the San Diego Padres against the Arizona
Diamondbacks on Friday.

Redding (0-2, 4.35 ERA), who is looking to get in the win column
for the first time this season, he is 0-4 in five career starts
against Arizona.

In his initial season with the Padres after four years with the
Houston Astros, Redding gave up five runs and six hits in five
innings in his previous outing against the Los Angeles Dodgers
on Sunday.

Ryan Klesko and Ramon Hernandez had three hits and two RBIs
apiece as the Padres posted a 6-1 victory over Los Angeles on
Thursday, breaking the Dodgers' eight-game winning streak.

Despite a three-run homer by Chad Tracy in the fifth inning,
Arizona failed to complete a two-game sweep of the San Francisco
Giants on Thursday, losing 4-3 in 13 innings.

Brad Halsey (1-0, 2.81), acquired from the New York Yankees in
the trade for Randy Johnson, makes his third start. He left
Sunday's game against the Washington Nationals with a 3-1 lead
after six innings but did not factor in the decision.
