Nationals place RHP Tucker on 15-day DL

WASHINGTON - The Washington Nationals lost their second
reliever in three days Wednesday, when righthander T.J. Tucker
was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right
groin.

After righthander Antonio Osuna was put on the DL with a
strained right shoulder on Monday, Tucker suffered his injury
after retiring the only two batters he faced in the sixth inning
of Tuesday's 6-3 loss to Florida.

In six appearances this season, Tucker is 1-0 and has not
allowed a run in 5 1/3 innings.

To replace Tucker on the roster, the Nationals purchased the
contract of veteran righthander Hector Carrasco from Class AAA
New Orleans of the Pacific Coast League.

Carrasco, who was signed to a minor league contract during the
offseason, last appeared in the major leagues with Baltimore in
2003, going 2-6 with one save and a 4.93 ERA in 40 games.

The 35-year-old Dominican Republic native, who spent last season
in Japan, has a career record of 30-42 with 16 saves and a 4.21
ERA in 498 contests with Cincinnati, Kansas City, Minnesota,
Boston and the Orioles.

Washington transferred outfielder Alex Escobar to the 60-day DL
in order to add Carrasco to the 40-man roster.
