Cubs' Garciaparra suffers groin injury

ST. LOUIS - Nomar Garciaparra may be headed back to the
disabled list.

Garciaparra, who has battled serious injuries in two of the last
four seasons, was forced to leave Wednesday's game between the
Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals with an apparent groin
injury.

The Cubs' shortstop, who was acquired from the Boston Red Sox in
a four-team deal at the trade deadline in 2004, suffered the
injury trying to race out of the batters' box in the third
inning. The severity of the injury is unknown and Garciaparra
will undergo an MRI on Thursday.

A career .322 hitter entering the season, Garciaparra was
batting just .157 with no home runs and four RBIs through his
first 51 at-bats. He had been dropped to the sixth spot in the
lineup just prior to the game.
