Brink passes for 156 yards in Cougar scrimmage

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Quarterback Alex Brink passed for 156
yards and one touchdown and defensive end Adam Braidwood recorded
four quarterback sacks Saturday to highlight the final spring
football scrimmage of the Washington State Cougars.

No score was kept. Quarterbacks were off limits for tacklers, so
sacks were credited if defensive players touched a quarterback.

The Cougars dropped their traditional Crimson and Gray Game,
which primarily matched starters against reserves in the final
spring scrimmage, so offensive and defensive starters could face
one another more often.

Several projected starters sat out all contact drills this
spring, including quarterback Josh Swogger and middle linebacker
Will Derting. The Cougars announced Saturday that Derting underwent
a second operation on his left wrist Friday, but is still expected
to be fully recovered for fall camp.

Washington State's offense, dominant most of the spring, was
held in check Saturday after a quick start. Senior cornerback Tyron
Brackenridge, battling for a starting job, intercepted a Cole
Morgan pass and returned it 64 yards for a touchdown.

Jerome Harrison, the only scholarship tailback in spring
practice, gained 67 yards on 14 carries. Harrison's backup, Kevin
McCall, has been suspended indefinitely due to a third-degree rape
charge.

The Cougars, 5-6 last year, open the season Sept. 1 at home
against Idaho.
