Soccer-Antlers go top with victory in Hiroshima

TOKYO, April 9 - Four-times champions Kashima
Antlers beat Sanfrecce Hiroshima 1-0 away to take top spot in
the J-League on Saturday.

Midfielder Takuya Nozawa's 71st-minute goal gave Kashima 10
points from four matches while other results also went their
way.

However, FC Tokyo will go back to the top on goal difference
if they beat Jubilo Iwata at home on Sunday.

Promoted Omiya Ardija missed the chance to keep pace with
Kashima as they were beaten 3-2 at Albirex Niigata after a late
winner from Brazilian Fabinho.

Austria striker Mario Haas scored two first-half goals to
propel JEF United Chiba to a 4-2 home victory over Oita Trinita
for their first win in four games.

Struggling Urawa Reds, meanwhile, slipped to the foot of the
table as German Guido Buchwald's side could only draw 1-1 at
home with Gamba Osaka. Last year's runners-up had lost their
previous three league matches.

Cerezo Osaka earned their first points of the season with a
1-0 home victory over Nagoya Grampus Eight, while Kashiwa Reysol
won 2-1 at Shimizu S-Pulse.

Kawasaki Frontale beat Ossie Ardiles's Tokyo Verdy 1-0 at
home in a late match to record their first win.
