The buzzbait advantage

According to western BASS pro Dean Rojas, his buzzbait search offers three distinct advantages: First, bass that respond to the water-churning presentation of a buzzbait are generally the most aggressive in a given area. And typically, these also are some of the largest fish. From the most basic perspective, this tells him that a certain zone does hold quality fish and should be factored in as part of his tournament game plan. But it does much more than that.

"What these strikes are really telling me is that a lot more is going on than just what I'm seeing," he says. "It tells me that the zone I've discovered has the necessary ingredients for quality fish, and there is a good chance it holds more than one bass. In most cases, if you can get a strike on a buzzbait, usually there are two or three more around that will eat a crank or a spinnerbait."
