Cold Front Dilemma

Cold front bass rarely make a radical move from shallow to extremely deep water if it means traveling a considerable distance.

"A lot of times, you will be fishing a particular bank or a bay where you have been catching them, and suddenly you can't buy a strike," BASS pro Mike Auten explains. "Either they've quit biting on that particular stretch of bank, or they have relocated.

"You really have to slow down and fish methodically with something like a jig to see if the bass are still there. If not, then you have to determine if they have moved. They may have pulled out to the first piece of cover that's close to deep water. Or, they may have just tightened up to the cover — burying themselves in grass, for example. Most of the time, it's been my experience that the fish haven't quit biting. They've just relocated."
