Orioles seek first 2-0 start in eight years

Oakland (0-1) at Baltimore (1-0), 7:05 pm EDT

BALTIMORE -- The Baltimore Orioles will try to go
2-0 for the first time since 1997 when they continue a
season-opening series against the Oakland Athletics on
Wednesday.

Luis Matos belted a two-run homer and Rodrigo Lopez threw
six scoreless innings in a 4-0 victory on Opening Day. Sammy
Sosa had two singles in his Orioles' debut.

Righthander Daniel Cabrera hopes to build on a rookie season in
which he went 12-8 when he takes the mound on Wednesday. In
his only start against Oakland last season, Cabrera was rocked
for five runs in just 2 2/3 innings.

Kirk Saarloos will take the place of Rich Harden on the mound
for the A's. Harden, the hard-throwing youngster that made
Oakland feel it could trade pitchers Tim Hudson and Mark Mulder,
was scratched because of a blister on his right middle finger.

Saarloos' only appearence against Baltimore was an inning of
relief in 2003 when he pitched for Houston.

The A's will also likely be without 2004 Rookie of the Year
Bobby Crosby, who left Monday's game in the fourth inning with
an upper back injury.

Oakland won all seven meetings with Baltimore last season.
