Cricket-Younis forges on for Pakistan after Inzamam falls

BANGALORE, India, March 25 - Inzamam-ul-Haq fell
for 184 and Younis Khan cracked a career-best unbeaten 177 as
Pakistan headed for a mammoth total at lunch on the second day
of the final test against India on Friday.

Younis, playing his 35th test, struck 20 fours and a six in
his 350-ball knock as the visitors reached 417 for four on a
flat wicket at the Chinnaswamy stadium.

The 27-year-old vice-captain shared in a 324-run stand for
the third wicket with Inzamam and added 84 for the fourth with
Yousuf Youhana (37).

India lead the three-match series 1-0.

Paceman Lakshmipathy Balaji got India off to a dream start
again on Friday, striking with his first delivery.

Balaji, who had removed opener Shahid Afridi with his first
ball on Thursday, trapped Inzamam lbw with a good-length
delivery that came in just enough to beat the bat.

That was the only time Inzamam, the fifth player to score a
century in his 100th test, was convincingly beaten during his
264-ball knock.

Younis took charge after his captain's departure, stroking
Balaji and Irfan Pathan through the off side before raising his
150 with a block-and-run single.

Youhana, who had struck a century in the second test in
Calcutta, looked in good touch from the moment he walked in,
driving Balaji to the cover fence and lofting leg spinner Anil
Kumble over mid-off for four.

He was lucky on 24 when he was way short of his ground after
a misunderstanding over a quick single, but Sachin Tendulkar
missed a direct hit from point.

Youhana celebrated the reprieve by exquisitely driving
Kumble straight down the ground. He looked set for another big
innings before off spinner Harbhajan Singh had him caught behind
with a ball that drifted away.

New batsman Asim Kamal was yet to open his account after
playing 16 deliveries.
