Soccer-Hungarian league resumes one week late because of snow

BUDAPEST, March 11 - Hungary's season resumes on
Saturday after a three-month winter break, a week later than
planned after heavy snow made pitches unplayable last weekend.

However, the wintry weather has forced the postponement of
two games this weekend in the 16-club first division.

Hungarian pitches do not have under-soil-heating and the one
that does, at Kispest, is not used because it is too expensive.

League leaders Ferencvaros are favourites to retain their
title. Arch-rivals Ujpest, who are fourth in the league and nine
points adrift, have added two experienced defenders to their
squad and a new midfielder.

International defender Csaba Feher has arrived on loan from
PSV Eindhoven, while midfielder Norbert Nemeth was signed from
MTK Budapest and Serbian defender Ivan Popovic from Vojvodina.

Second-placed Debrecen is bidding to win their first title
this year. Their attacking style has earned them many fans
throughout the country and their squad is the strongest in the
league by far, on paper at least.
