Canisius coach MacDonald receives extension

BUFFALO, New York - Canisius men's basketball coach
Mike MacDonald, who completed his eighth season at the school,
signed a contract extension Thursday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Golden Griffins finished this season just 11-18, but won 10
of their last 19 games, including a 62-60 victory over Marist in
the first round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference
tournament.

"One of the main factors we look at when evaluating our coaches
is progress," Canisius vice president for student affairs Ellen
Conley said. "I believe that Mike made tremendous progress over
the course of the season and has our program headed in the right
direction."

McDonald has a career mark of 99-133, leaving him one win shy of
becoming the fourth Canisius coach with 100 victories.

"I'm obviously excited about the opportunity to continue my
coaching career at Canisius," he said. "I believe we will
continue the progress we made this season and that our program
will challenge for a spot in the top-half of the league next
season."
