Fire F Ralph signs contract with Russian team

CHICAGO - Chicago Fire forward Damani Ralph, the 2003
MLS Rookie of the Year, on Monday signed a contract with FC
Rubin Kazan of the Russian premier league.

The 18th overall draft pick in 2003, Ralph spent two seasons
with the Fire, recording 22 goals and 53 points in 51 games. He
earned a starting spot on the Eastern Conference in last
year's MLS All-Star Game.

"Damani made a tremendous impact on the Fire in his two years
with us," Chicago coach Dave Sarachan said. "As difficult and
sad as it as a team and organization, I am happy for him on a
personal and professional level."

The 24-year-old Damani had agreed to a multi-year deal with the
Fire last season. As compensation, the Fire will receive an
allocated player from the MLS.

"This move will enable him to take care of himself and his
family in Jamaica for life," Chicago president and general Peter
Wilt said. "In only two years, he created some of the most
exciting goals in Fire history."
