Valparaiso 74, Ind.-Pur.-Ft. Wayne 72, OT

VALPARAISO, Ind. -- Dan Oppland scored 21 points, including
the go-ahead layup in overtime, as Valparaiso beat
Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne Wednesday night in a game that had 11
ties and 13 lead changes.

Valpo (15-13) took a 66-64 edge on an Oppland jumper as overtime
started and held onto the lead until IPFW's Byron Malone nailed a
3-pointer to give the Mastodons (6-21) a 70-69 edge with 1:49 left.

Jarryd Loyd hit a layup 24 seconds later to take back the lead
for the Crusaders, but Simon replied with a dunk to put IPFW up
72-71.

Oppland scored with 29 seconds remaining to regain a one-point
edge, and Seth Colclasure hit one of two free throws to seal the
victory with 8 seconds left. The Mastodons didn't get off another
shot.

Simon had 26 points and eight rebounds to lead IPFW. Peter
Campbell chipped in 13 points and Quintin Carouthers and Beau Bauer
had 10 each for the Mastodons.

Ron Howard had 18 points and eight rebounds for Valparaiso, Loyd
added 14 points and Kenny Harris scored 13.
