Selig has overseen several youth programs

Selig to be honored: Baseball commissioner Bud Selig will be
honored with a lifetime achievement award for his support of
various urban youth initiatives in the Los Angeles area.

Hall of Famers Ozzie Smith and Dave Winfield also will be
honored at the 16th Annual Los Angeles Reviving Baseball in Inner
Cities (RBI) event.

"Major League baseball is committed to improving the lives of
inner city youth through programs like RBI that promote teamwork,
education and positive self-esteem," Selig said. "I am extremely
proud of the impact RBI continues to have toward realizing this
goal."

Since becoming commissioner in July 1998, Selig has overseen the
development of several youth efforts, including the Major League
Baseball Urban Youth Initiative and the Baseball Tomorrow Fund.

Kansas City Royals: The Royals and outfielder Brian L. Hunter agreed to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Hunter, 33, spent last year in the St. Louis Cardinals'
organization. He had his best major league season with the Detroit Tigers in 1997, leading the AL with 74 stolen bases.

He also led the league with 44 steals in 1999.
