San Diego 92, Pepperdine 88

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Nick Lewis scored a career-high 28 points and
Brandon Gay added 24, including 22 in the second half, as San Diego
used a late comeback to beat Pepperdine 92-88 on Saturday.

The Toreros, who faced a nine-point deficit midway through the
second half, rallied to move ahead 87-84 with 1:42 left after Gay
and Corey Belser hit back-to-back 3-pointers, each after a turnover
by the Waves.

Pepperdine pulled even 88-88 on a jumper by Alex Acker with 38
seconds to go. But Gay followed with a 3-pointer with 25 seconds
left and added a free throw with nine seconds left to seal the
second win in a row for the Toreros (12-10, 4-5 West Coast
Conference) following a three-game losing streak.

San Diego matched a school record by hitting 14 3-pointers on 27
attempts.

Pepperdine (13-11, 3-6) lost for the fifth time in six games
despite 31 points from Acker.

Lewis had 22 first-half points, two more than his previous
career high for an entire game.

He finished 10-for-13 from the field, including 5-for-6 from
3-point range.

San Diego coach Brad Holland recorded his 160th victory with San
Diego, moving into a tie for career wins at the school with Jim
Brovelli (1973-84).
