BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) -- Justin Hare scored 23 points and Will
Peeples made the go-ahead basket with less than a minute left in
overtime to lead Belmont to a 103-100 win over Florida Atlantic on
Monday night.
Belmont (8-12, 7-5) never trailed in overtime, jumping out to a
97-92 lead, before Florida Atlantic fought to tie it at 98-all.
After the teams traded baskets, Peeples hit a layup with 56 seconds
left to put Belmont up for good.
Kahleaf Watson missed a 3-pointer on the ensuing possession, and
after a Belmont free throw make 103-100, Mike Bell missed a
desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer.
The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for the Owls (6-14,
6-7).
Brian Collins added 20 points for Belmont while Dan Oliver and
Jese Snyder each had 18 and Josh Goodwin finished with 10.
Rodney Webb and Quinton Young each scored 23 points to lead the
Owls, who also got 22 points and 10 rebounds from Bell. Tywain
McTyer added 10 points for FAU to go along with a game-high eight
assists.
