Soccer-Bundesliga reports

FRANKFURT, Jan 30 - Reports of matches played in
the Bundesliga on Sunday:

HERTHA BERLIN 0 BAYERN MUNICH 0

Bayern failed to take full advantage of Saturday's surprise
defeats for Schalke 04 and VfB Stuttgart but at least claimed a
draw from a tricky encounter.

Hertha made life uncomfortable for Bayern in the first half
and had a Nando Rafael goal ruled out for a marginal offside in
the ninth minute.

Bayern improved after the break and twice went close to
snatching a win, with Paolo Guerro going fractionally wide with
a flick header and Owen Hargreaves smacking the post with a shot
from 30 metres.

WERDER BREMEN 3 HANSA ROSTOCK 2

Champions Werder twice held a two-goal lead but had to
survive a plucky fightback from bottom club Rostock.

Ivan Klasnic gave Werder the lead in the fifth minute when
he was left unmarked to head in from a corner at the far post
and the Croatian set up Miroslav Klose for the second just past
the half-hour.

David Rasmussen's header brought Rostock back into the game
just before halftime before Klasnic restored the advantage with
his second in the 62nd minute. Thomas Rasmussen made it 3-2 just
three minutes later but Werder held on.

Played Saturday:

ARMINIA BIELEFELD 0 HANOVER 96 1

Hanover recovered from their 3-0 defeat at home to Bayer
Leverkusen last weekend to claim a win that puts them back in
the hunt for European places. Daniel Stendel got the only goal
in the 30th minute when he took a pass from Jiri Stajner, beat
two defenders and squeezed a shot past the keeper.

BAYER LEVERKUSEN 4 VFL BOCHUM 0

Bayer Leverkusen made it seven goals without reply in their
two matches this year as they overwhelmed their opponents.

They took the lead in the 28th minute when Robson Ponte hit
the post and Jacek Krzynowek put in the rebound, and three
minutes later Andrej Voronin made it 2-0 when he collected Paul
Freier's through ball and shot between the keeper's legs.

A dismal clearance from Marcel Maltritz struck Robson Ponte
and went in for the third on 70 minutes and Freier rounded off
the scoring with 12 minutes to go.

BORUSSIA DORTMUND 1 BORUSSIA MOENCHENGLADBACH 1

The two fallen giants of German football had to settle for a
point apiece but each team could at least be satisfied that
their form is returning after a high quality match played in
front of an almost 80,000 crowd.

Dortmund went ahead when Jan Koller headed in a Dede free
kick on the half hour but Moenchengladbach were level within
three minutes of the restart through Peer Kluge's right-foot
shot.

SC FREIBURG 1 VFL WOLFSBURG 0

Wolfsburg looked a shadow of the side that led the league
for so long over the first half of the season as they suffered
their second defeat in two matches since the turn of the year.

Freiburg's winner came in the 57th minute when Zlatan
Bajramovic headed in from a corner. Wolfsburg had defender Kevin
Hofland sent off for a second yellow card late in a dismal game.

HAMBURG SV 2 FSV MAINZ 1

Hamburg were scarcely any better than in their 3-0 defeat to
Bayern Munich last week but did just enough to beat a subdued
Mainz side.

Sergej Barbarez made it 1-0 when his weak shot ballooned
over the keeper after taking a deflection in the 32nd minute but
Mainz were level before the break with a Benjamin Auer header
from Antonio da Silva's free kick.

Benjamin Lauth sealed victory for the home side when he
swatted in from the edge of the box in the 80th minute.

FC KAISERSLAUTERN 2 SCHALKE 04 0

Schalke looked anything but a title-winning side as
Kaiserslautern completed a comfortable win. Halil Altintop
controlled a punt forward and squared for Ioannis Amanatidis to
sweep in for the first in the 56th minute while a Stefan Blank
penalty completed victory.

VFB STUTTGART 2 FC NUREMBERG 4

Stuttgart, struggling without their suspended captain
Zvonimir Soldo, missed the chance to draw level with Bayern at
the top.

Nuremberg took the lead in the sixth minute, when Markus
Daun's astute reverse pass set up Sven Mueller to shoot low
across the keeper and in at the far post and Marek Mintal set up
Markus Schroth for the second soon afterwards.

Fernando Meira brought Stuttgart back into the game when he
turned in from a corner and a close-range finish from Imre
Szabics levelled with 20 minutes still to go.

The momentum was with Stuttgart but Nuremberg hit back to
seal a memorable win with late strikes from Mintal and Schroth.
