Memphis 73, South Florida 67

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Darius Washington and Duane Erwin each scored
20 points to lead Memphis to a 73-67 win over South Florida on
Wednesday night.

South Florida (8-7, 1-3 Conference USA) made a late run and
pulled to within 70-67 with 10 seconds left on a put-back and a
3-pointer by Terrence Leather, who led the Bulls with 25 points.

But after Simplice Njoya's free throw made it a two-possession
game, a steal and two free throws from Rodney Carney secured the
win for the Tigers (10-8, 3-1).

Free throw shooting helped Memphis, which hit 20 of 22 free
throws over the final seven minutes of play. Anthony Rice added 12
points for the Tigers while Rodney Carney had 10.

The Bulls got 23 points from Brian Swift, but no other USF
player finished in double figures.

Leather scored seven points during a 20-5 run over the final
eight minutes as South Florida took a 28-26 halftime lead. However,
Memphis shot 50 percent in the second half and hit 25-of-30 free
throws.

Memphis junior guard Jeremy Hunt was reinstated before the game
after a two-game suspension, but he scored just two points in 23
minutes.

He had been arrested on misdemeanor assault charges in
connection with a complaint filed by his former girlfriend.
