Soccer-Italy kicks off pay-per-game on terrestrial TV

ROME, Jan 13 - Italy is launching the world's
first pay-per-game services showing live soccer matches on
digital terrestrial television (DTT).

The deal pits the TV network controlled by Prime Minister
Silvio Berlusconi's family against Rupert Murdoch's Sky Italia.

The Mediaset group, controlled by the Berlusconi family, and
Telecom Italia Media will show the first live Serie A matches on
DTT on January 22.

Telecom Italia Media will show games involving Cagliari,
Palermo, Fiorentina, Chievo, Lecce, Reggina, Brescia, Bologna
and Parma.

Teams signing with Mediaset are AC Milan, owned by
Berlusconi's family, Juventus, Inter Milan, AS Roma, Sampdoria,
Messina, Atalanta and Livorno.
