AUBURN, Ala. (AP) -- Anthony Roberson scored 10 of his
season-high 34 points in overtime, leading Florida to an 84-78 win
over Auburn Wednesday night. Roberson and David Lee hit two free throws apiece in the final
39 seconds as the Gators (10-3, 2-0 Southeastern Conference) have
won their first two league games for the fifth consecutive season. The undersized Tigers (9-6, 0-2) didn't make it easy. Freshman
Toney Douglas hit a 26-footer over Lee Humphrey at the buzzer to
send it into overtime, finishing with 32 points. He caught the long
inbounds pass from Quinnel Brown with just 1.5 seconds left, spun
around and drained it from in front of the Auburn bench. Roberson and Douglas kept up their shootout after that,
combining for 14 of the first 15 points in overtime. Roberson hit a pair of 3s during that period and six for the
game. He missed his career high by one point and hadn't gone over
22 this season but picked up for the scoring slack left with
leading scorer Matt Walsh sidelined by an ankle injury. Douglas, meanwhile, had the second highest total for an Auburn
freshman in a league game, behind Eddie Johnson's 38 points against
Florida in 1974. Roberson also had nine rebounds and four assists. Corey Brewer
had 14 points on 6-of-6 shooting and added three steals for the
Gators. David Lee had 10 points and eight rebounds but mostly
couldn't take advantage of a huge size advantage inside, committing
six turnovers. The Gators opened the second half on a 19-6 to build up a 55-45
lead. Then, Brown scored 13 consecutive points to bring the Tigers
back. Brown, Auburn's tallest starter at 6-foot-6, had 21 points and
Ian Young added 12. The Tigers tried to offset the size mismatch by
launching 30 3-pointers, but made only seven. Florida was much more accurate. The Gators hit all three shots
in overtime and 58.5 percent for the game, including 10 of 18
3-pointers.
