BOONE, N.C. -- Kyle Hines scored a career-high 23 points on
11-for-13 shooting to lift UNC Greensboro to an 84-79 win against
Appalachian State on Saturday.
Hines made his first eight shots from the field as the Spartans
(9-4, 2-0 SoCon) snapped the Mountaineers' six home-game winning
streak.
Ray Bristow scored 20 points on 8-for-8 shooting from the line
for the Spartans. Josh Gross added 10 points and five rebounds
while Ronnie Burrell had 10 rebounds and five assists.
Derek Thomas led the Mountaineers (6-6, 1-2) with 18 points and
Chris McFarland added 12.
The teams seesawed back and forth in the first half with the
Spartans leading 40-37 at the break.
The Spartans maintained a 7-point lead for about eight minutes
of the second half.
The Mountaineers cut the Spartans' lead to three, 75-72, when
Demetrius Scott hit a 3-pointer to cap a 6-0 run with 1:58 to play.
The Spartans knocked down 7-of-8 shots from the line in the
final 1:50 to clinch the victory.
