VA Commonwealth 70, Towson 58

TOWSON, Md. (AP) -- Michael Doles scored 18 of his 22 points in
the second half, matching a career high set Jan. 5, and Virginia
Commonwealth defeated Towson 70-58 Friday night.

Nick George added 15 points and B.A. Walker 13 for the Rams
(6-6, 2-1 Colonial Athletic Association), who have won two
straight. VCU posted its eighth consecutive victory over Towson.

Cantrell Fletcher had 15 points for the Tigers (4-9, 1-2 CAA),
who have dropped three of four. Lawrence Hamm scored 13 points and
Michael Green 12 for the Tigers, who finished 11-of-29 from the
foul line.

VCU committed a season-low five turnovers, scored 17 points off
13 Tiger giveaways and held a 19-4 edge in fast-break points.

Walker had 11 first-half points and VCU used an early 23-5 to
take a 33-22 halftime lead.

Nick George had the first four points of the burst on a jumper
and two free throws and six different Rams scored during the spree.

Jesse Pallot-Rose's baseline drive ended the run and Towson
converted only one shot from the field during the 10-minute
stretch, part of a 7-for-21 first half.

The Tigers trailed by as many as 15 in the first half, after a
steal and slam dunk by Walker 4:39 before intermission.

VCU took a 49-32 lead, its largest of the game, on an Alexander
Harper layup with 11:32 remaining in the game. Towson got as close
as nine points on Fletcher's 3 with 3:01 remaining in the second
half.
