Cardinals seeking donations for every yard Smith gains

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Emmitt Smith and the Arizona Cardinals this
week began "Emmitt's Run for Young Arizona."

The program calls for people to pledge a certain amount of money
for each yard Smith gains this season. The money will go to
Cardinals Charities to be used for youth programs in Arizona.

Smith himself pledged $1 for every yard.

"I'm trying to get about 1,000 yards and try to win more games
and try to do all the positive things we can," he said on
Wednesday. "I have established some history here. Since I'm going
to be here and playing for the Arizona Cardinals, it's time for me
to try to do something outside of what I normally do."

Through nine games, Smith has rushed for 658 yards, averaging
3.6 per carry.
