Former Blues C Danton sentenced to 7 1/2 years in prison

EAST ST LOUIS, Illinois - Former St. Louis Blues center
Mike Danton on Monday was sentenced to 7 1/2 years in prison
for a murder-for-hire plot to kill his agent.

Danton, a native of Brampton, Ontario, agreed to a plea bargain
on July 16 and had faced up to 10 years in prison.

Danton has been in prison since his arrest on April 16 in San
Jose, California, a day after the Blues were eliminated from the
playoffs by the Sharks. He is expected to seek a transfer to a
Canadian prison but may not be able to return to the United
States after his sentence has been completed.

The 24-year-old Danton and co-defendant Katie Wolfmeyer faced
murder-for-hire conspiracy charges as part of a plot to have his
agent David Frost killed. The would-be hit man hired turned
out to be a police informant.

Wolfmeyer, a 19-year-old college student, pleaded innocent and
was acquitted on September 20.

During the 2003-04 season, Danton set career highs with seven
goals, five assists and 141 penalty minutes in 68 games with St.
Louis. He had just two assists in 17 games with the New Jersey
Devils the previous season.

Danton's contract was not renewed by the Blues.
