CHICAGO - The Chicago Cubs parted ways with a pair of
players Thursday, declining the 2005 contract options on left
fielder Moises Alou and second baseman Mark Grudzielanek.

Alou enjoyed the best of his three seasons with the Cubs in
2004, hitting .293 with a career-high 39 home runs and 106 RBIs
in 155 games. The 38-year-old led the team in homers, RBIs and
runs (106).

Drafted in the first round by Pittsburgh in 1986, Alou owns a
.300 career average with 278 homers and 1,092 RBIs in 1,619 games
with the Pirates, Montreal, Florida, Houston and the Cubs. A
four-time All-Star, Alou was a member of the Marlins' world
championship team in 1997.

Acquired from Los Angeles in a four-player deal in December
2002, Grudzielanek batted .307 with six homers and 23 RBIs in 81
games this season. The 34-year-old missed over two months early
in the year with a right Achilles injury.

In 1,299 career games with the Expos, Dodgers and Cubs,
Grudzielanek has a .287 average with 66 homers and 443 RBIs.
